The ruler of the universe has been found.

Christopher Walken has snagged the plum role from Emperor Shaddam IV Dune: Part Twothe all-star sequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar-winning adaptation of the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic.

Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson and Javier Bardem, among others, return for the Legendary film, with Florence Pugh and Austin Butler among the newcomers.

The story picks up where the first left off, with Paul Atreides (Chalamet) fighting alongside the Fremen to liberate the desert planet of Arrakis from House Harkonnen.

Walken will play the ruler of the known universe who first sends the Atreides family to Arrakis to bring about their downfall. In the sequel, he and the Baron terrorize the populace and have to settle for rebellion. Jose Ferrer played the role in the 1984 film adaptation of David Lynch.

Pugh plays Princess Irulan, the Emperor’s daughter, while Butler is Feyd-Rautha, the Baron’s wily nephew who leads House Harkonnen and is groomed to rule Arrakis.

Filming is set to begin this summer in Budapest with Villeneuve in the director’s chair. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts.

The project is produced by Mary Parent, Villeneuve, Cale Boyter and Tanya Lapointe.

Executive Producers are Josh Grode, David Valdes, Herbert W. Gains, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt, Kim Herbert, Thomas Tull, Jon Spaihts, Richard P. Rubinstein and John Harrison. Kevin J. Anderson, the author who co-wrote many dune Books starring Brian Herbert after Frank Herbert’s death, serving as creative advisor.

dune When the film was released by Warner Bros. in September and October 2021, it grossed $400.6 million at the worldwide box office. He also received 10 Oscar nominations, including best picture, and won six Oscars.
