Breaking Trump News Today: Ex-pres says Musk won’t buy Twitter at ‘ridiculous price’ as Pence backs Gov Kemp

Biden taunts Trump as “the great MAGA king” in economics speech.

As Donald Trump’s nominee David Perdue struggles to gain momentum in Georgia’s gubernatorial primary, Mike Pence has announced he will be visiting the state to seek the vote for incumbent Brian Kemp — a Republican who refused to meet Mr. Bending Trump’s insistence that the state was stolen by Joe Biden in 2020.

Meanwhile, the special committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol has issued subpoenas to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and four other GOP lawmakers who are close allies of Donald Trump: the House of Representatives Jim Jordan from Ohio, Scott Perry from Pennsylvania and Andy Biggs from Arizona and Mo Brooks from Alabama. Everyone was given the opportunity to testify voluntarily.

And the Justice Department is now investigating whether former President Trump or one of his associates violated federal law by mishandling classified documents that ended up in Mar-a-Lago instead of the national archives at the end of his term.

On Friday, the former president shared some thoughts on Elon Musk’s plan to buy Twitter, saying the billionaire wouldn’t pay a “ridiculous price” for the platform as it mostly deals with “BOTS or spam accounts.”

Trump says Elon Musk won’t buy Twitter at such a ‘ridiculous price’

Donald Trump says Elon Musk will not buy Twitter at “such a ridiculous price” after the billionaire announced he was putting his $44 billion purchase of the platform on hold.

The Tesla boss says he’s “still determined” to buy Twitter, but the deal is on hold until he gathers more information about the spam and fake accounts on the platform.

Mr Musk has vowed to let Mr Trump back on the platform as soon as he takes control of it, but the year-old President ever questioned this in a post on his own Truth Social platform.

ICYMI: A pro-Trump Netflix could be coming your way

A bespoke social media platform (albeit a besieged one) is all well and good, but Donald Trump now appears to be pursuing another endeavor to provide a “sanctuary” for the president’s fans: a right-wing alternative to Netflix.

Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) is recruiting staff for the new company. In an ad published on Wednesday, the group announced that the streaming service, dubbed TMTG+, will be “a ‘big tent’ platform offering broad-based entertainment based on free speech.”

It added that “in addition to social media platform Truth Social, our SVOD [Subscription Video on Demand] The TMTG+ platform will be home to a variety of unscripted, scripted and original content.”

Trump is concerned about Elon Musk’s plans to buy Twitter

Former President Donald Trump took to his own social media site, Truth Social, to share some thoughts on Elon Musk’s intent to buy Twitter.

He wrote (true?): “There’s no way Elon Musk is going to buy Twitter at such a ridiculous price, especially as he realizes it’s a company largely based on BOTS or spam accounts. Fake someone?”

The former president continued: “What do you have if you get rid of them, if that’s even possible? Not much? Were it not for the ridiculous billion-dollar breakup fee, Elon would have been long gone. Just my opinion but Truth Social is MUCH better than Twitter and absolutely exploding, amazing engagement!”

Mr Musk had previously said he would allow Mr Trump to return to Twitter, from which he has been banned since January 6, 2021. Earlier today, Mr Musk said his purchase of the microblogging social media site was “on hold” pending an investigation into how many bots and spam accounts existed on the platform.

Musk insists the Twitter sale is still ongoing

Elon Musk sent Twitter stocks plummeting with a late-night tweet saying he was pausing his plans to buy out the company while evaluating his estimates of how many accounts are fake or spam.

Since then, however, he has been trying to calm down:

Mr Musk has reiterated that he would like to see Donald Trump’s Twitter account restored, although the former President has said (for now) that he intends to remain on his own platform, the troubled Truth Social.

Lindsey Graham says he “wrongly” suggested Biden should become president on Jan. 6

South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham was not flattered by the recent release of audio recordings following the Jan. 6 riots, in which he said Donald Trump bore responsibility for the day’s events and said Joe Biden was “maybe the best person to have”. the White House.

Now Mr Graham has backtracked on his comments, telling Fox News host Jesse Watters that he was “wrong” about Mr Biden.

“I’ve known Joe for 30 years. He’s a nice guy, but as president he was a disaster,” he said. “No one fears Joe Biden abroad, and at home his policies are failing.”

Pence breaks streak with Trump in Georgia governor race

Donald Trump’s supporter in the race for Georgia Governor David Perdue has failed miserably to catch up with Republican incumbent Brian Kemp. And with the vote set for May 24, Mr. Kemp has himself attracted a high-profile supporter: Mike Pence.

While Mr Pence has not specifically condemned Mr Trump for his actions after the 2020 election, Mr Trump has essentially ruled out including him in a future presidential ticket. For his part, Mr Pence has continued a schedule of campaign-style speeches and appearances across the country, prompting some speculation that he could tip the presidency if Mr Trump fails or is unable to run.
