Chargers capture Urban Meyer in wild video

The Los Angeles Chargers have officially raised the bar for planned release videos — and captured some impeccable footage from other teams in the process.

The team revealed their entire 2022 schedule in a hilarious anime send-up, going through all 17 matchups and animating each of their opponents – with varying degrees of ferocity.

Following a pirate ship animation for the Raiders’ Week 1 matchup and dueling mechas from Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert in Week 2 against the Chiefs, the video tackled the Jaguars – their Week 3 opponent – and taunted Urban Meyer in an incredible four seconds. The video showed a Jaguar wearing the outfit worn by the former Jaguars head coach in the infamous video of a young woman dragging on his lap in 2021, looking sad and alone in a bar.

The incident was the most embarrassing of Meyer’s Jacksonville tenure, though it wasn’t the one that fired him for less than a full season (one report that he physically kicked ex-Jaguars kicker Josh Lambo was). However, the Chargers’ social media team had no problem meddling in the controversy.

They also had no problem making fun of the Browns and Deshaun Watson. Los Angeles plays Cleveland in week 5, and in the video, the music stops and a graphic appears that reads, “Redacted on the advice of our attorneys.”

It refers to the Browns acting for Watson and obliging him to a $230 million extension despite 22 women accusing him of sexual misconduct. The deal was carried out after Watson was acquitted of criminal charges, although he still faces numerous civil lawsuits over the allegations.

While the Chargers weren’t overly mean to the Chiefs, they did stab divisional rivals Broncos by animating Mile High Stadium on fire after Russell Wilson wore a “Let Russ Cook” headband. They also photographed Antonio Brown’s brief tenure with the Raiders, showing a dumpster that read “AB’s discarded helmets.”

For the Cardinals matchup, they mocked Kyler Murray, who deleted all of his social media posts. For the Seahawks, a tombstone for the defense of the Legion of Boom. For the Colts, a literal “quarterback carousel” showcasing the QBs the team has cycled through in recent years: Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, Jacoby Brissett and former Chargers QB Philip Rivers.

All in all, it was a brilliant two minutes that eclipsed every other team’s planned release video.
