‘Magnum P.I’.’ Creatives, Cast Respond To Series Cancellation By CBS – Deadline

The case of MagnumPI closed CBS, leaving the creative minds and cast of the reboot series bittersweet about the cancellation.

Amid a spate of cancellations and renewals heading toward next week’s pre-show, CBS announced it will not be renewed MagnumPI, starring Jay Hernandez, for a fifth season. Other CBS titles that have stopped moving forward are B Positive, United States of All, How We Roll and Good Sam. Shortly after the news broke, co-creator Peter Lenkov took to social media to respond to and answer questions from Magnum fans.

“[It] Was my dream come true to reboot it,” Lenkov tweeted in response to a fan hoping he and Hernandez can continue working together in the future.

“Grateful it happened at all… getting a reboot to click is tricky… and this one did it. Luckily,” he replied to another fan tweet, which condemned the network’s “terrible decision.”

Also responding to the news was Tim Kang, who starred alongside Hernandez and Perdita Weeks as Detective Gordon Katsumoto. Kang thanked the loyal Magnum PI fans, noting, “We never got this far without you guys.”

“The #MagnumWriters have been writing fun and compelling stories week in and week out and I’ve been honored to be a part of this cast and crew,” he continued. “Aloha!”

Martin Martinez, who joined as Cade in the show’s fourth and final season, also responded to the news. See the tweets below. Deadline will continue to update this post as more responses come in.
