MultiVersus makes its way to Evo 2022, new gameplay showcased as Super Smash Bros. players compete against developers

Next, let’s take a look at MultiVersus, the upcoming platformer from Player First Games and Warner Bros. The game’s two main developers face off against two Super Smash Bros. competitors in a trio of exhibition battles.

James “CLG|VoiD” Makekau-Tyson and Tyrell “TCE|NAKAT” Coleman join PFG’s Tony Huynh and Daniel Kraft to show us all what MulitVersus looks like in the hands of players who know what they’re doing. They then go into a few details about the game’s design and discuss what gives it its unique charm as a fighter.

Before we jump into the action, there will be a MultiVersus 2 vs. 2 tournament at the 2022 Evolution Championship Series, which will be held August 5-7 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

These two-on-two exhibitions all feature the same characters as VoiD and NAKAT are Tom and Jerry and Wonder Woman users while Huynh and Kraft use Superman and Shaggy repeatedly.

“We will update the game regularly,” begins Huynh. “It will give us an opportunity to speak to the community to get what the community wants out of the game.”

Kraft points out some of the boxes the team tries to check to ensure MultiVersus appeals to as many types of players as possible.

“Of course we want to have some new characters. New skins, new tiers, new customization options, and we don’t want any barriers to entry. We will have cross-platform progress. We just want it to be as smooth and easy to play as possible.”

They go on to note that they aim to make “the best online game ever” and we then learn that the next closed alpha test will run from May 19th to May 27th (register here ).

MultiVersus is slated for release sometime in 2022 on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC as a free-to-play title with cross-platform play, cross-platform progression, and rollback netcode.
