Pokémon Home gets Arceus, Brilliant Diamond, and Shining Pearl updates

Pokémon Home will finally be compatible Pokémon Legends: Arceusas well as Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Pokemon Shining Pearl. The Pokémon Company announced the long-awaited update in a press release on Thursday.

An exact release date for the update was not listed alongside the new information – only that it will be “coming soon”. Polygon contacted The Pokémon Company for more information.

Pokémon players have been eagerly awaiting information about Pokémon Home; Brilliant diamond and Luminous Pearl were released in November 2021, followed by Legends: Arceus in January 2022, but the cloud-based saving and trading system remained incompatible with all these games for some time.

“For example, you can take a Pikachu that you caught Pokémon sword or Pokémon shield in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokemon Brilliant Diamondor Pokemon Shining Pearl‘ wrote The Pokemon Company. “Please note that transferring Pokémon into a game where they weren’t originally trapped may cause certain changes to known moves, levels, and the type of Poké Ball they were trapped in.”

That means Pokémon moves can change as they carry over to Home and then to other games. The details here are vague, but Pokémon experts over at Serebii are quick to glean details from Japanese pre-release versions of the app: Although moves aren’t carried over, they remain “connected” to Pokémon, meaning that when they move to the Returning to the game they were caught in, they keep the original moves, regardless of whether they learned anything from their foray into another game, Serebii says.

You will also notice that Pokémon have been transferred from Legends: Arceus appear in new Poké Balls when they are transferred. Poké Balls as we know them today didn’t exist in this game, so everything was carried over to and from there Legends: Arceus appears in a green strange ball.

As part of the update, The Pokémon Company is adding Pokédex from each of the games alongside the National Pokédex.

Last but not least, The Pokémon Company is rewarding Pokémon Home users with free Pokémon: Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott. To get them directly from the company:

When you discard a Pokemon Pokemon Brilliant Diamond or Pokemon Shining Pearl For the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon HOME, you’ll receive Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup with hidden abilities as secret gifts in the mobile version of Pokémon Home.

Discard a Pokemon Pokémon Legends: Arceus In the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon Home, you’ll get Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott at max effort levels as Mystery Gifts in the mobile version of Pokémon Home.

The Pokémon Home app was released in 2020 and replaces the Pokémon Bank app that was used for the Nintendo 3DS Pokémon games. Pokémon Bank creatures can be transferred to Pokémon Home, but not vice versa.
