Jonathan Kuminga trolls Grizzlies; Yes Morant claps back after Warriors win

The Warriors’ streak against the Memphis Grizzlies is over, but the trash talk between the players involved still rages on

After the Warriors ended the Western Conference Semifinals with a 110-96 win in Game 6 at the Chase Center on Friday, rookie Jonathan Kuminga trolled the Grizzlies with a post-game tweet.

Injured Grizzlies star Ja Morant fired back at Kuminga, telling the newcomer he had to “earn a few stripes” first before he could have this conversation.

Kuminga then replied to Morant saying he wouldn’t say too much.

Kuminga is referencing rapper Al Kapone’s song “Whoop That Trick,” which has become a rallying cry for Grizzlies fans this season. It became a big talking point during Game 5 when ESPN’s Steph Curry told Kendra Andrews before the game that the Warriors’ plan was to do “Whoop That Trick.”

Curry’s comments came back to bite him when the Grizzlies blasted the Warriors’ doors 134-95 in Game 5, prompting plenty of internet memes and the FedExForum crowd singing the song throughout the fourth quarter of the blowout.

Ultimately, after a hard-fought streak, Kuminga and Morant are just having lighthearted fun on Twitter. Morant did not appear in the final three games of the series after injuring his knee in Game 3, while Kuminga started Games 3, 4 and 5 but did not play at all in Game 6.

Kuminga is free to say whatever he wants now that his team has moved on, and Morant probably isn’t the only one in the Grizzlies’ locker room who thinks Kuminga needs some more time in the league before he opens his mouth.

In the end, the Warriors advance to the Western Conference Finals and the Grizzlies begin their vacation plans. But there is already plenty of fuel for the two opponents’ first clash of the 2022-23 season.
