Steelers sign three more draft picks Friday

Following the announcement that George Pickens was selected for the second round and signed his rookie contract on Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now inked the majority of their draft class in rookie deals. Corresponding The Houston Chronicle Aaron Wilson, the team, signed FB/TE Connor Heyward, LB Mark Robinson and QB Chris Oladokun to a four-year contract for the sixth round.

Heyward, Robinson and Oladokun were the Steelers’ last three draft picks. Heyward’s deal was expected to be around $3.815 million this year, with a $155,000 signing bonus and a $743,000 cap. Robinson’s deal is valued at approximately $3.77 million with a $112,000 signing bonus and a $733,000 cap. Oladokun’s numbers are smaller overall, a roughly $3.75 million deal with a nearly $90,000 bonus and a $727,000 cap.

Listed as a close end, Heyward carries the position number and grabs #83, but will likely wear many hats along the Steelers offense. He also has a role to play on special teams. While he will compete with FB Derek Watt, it’s possible the team will keep both on the 53-man roster to start the year, just like they did with Will Johnson and Roosevelt Nix years ago.

Robinson is a former RB who played a year at LB with Ole Miss and registered a total of 91 tackles. As a downhill player, he needs to be more comfortable in cover. And like Heyward, he needs to impress Danny Smith to make the list.

Oladokun was the second drafted QB. After playing at South Florida and Samford, he landed at South Dakota State last season and led the team to a deep playoff run before falling to Montana State. He has a good arm and mobility and will go into camp as number 4 on the list.

Including Pickens, the team signed four of their seven draft picks. The only three left to sign are Round 1 QB Kenny Pickett, Round 3 DL DeMarvin Leal and Round 4 WR Calvin Austin III.
