There are still a few first-party Wii U games that fans are hoping will be brought to Switch, including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. So far, however, it hasn’t happened.

Tantalus – the team behind Zelda: Skyward Sword HD – originally worked on Twilight Princess HD for release on Wii U in 2016. However, according to CEO Tom Crago, the company has not yet asked the company to work on a Switch port.

In the latest episode of Fragments of the Silicon PodcastHere’s what Crago said when asked about The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD for Switch and if Nintendo has gotten back to it:

“No, and look, of course we’d love to do that, but that wasn’t a priority for Nintendo — or at least not in conversations they’ve had with us.

The way it works with our friends over there, we take every opportunity to work on one of their titles. There is a constant dialogue between our two companies. There’s often a bit of time between titles and other ideas might pop up, but in the case of Skyward Sword, some time passed and then the email came, ‘Would you be interested in bringing Skyward Sword to Switch?’ To which the answer, of course, is yes, we would. And then we start discussions with Nintendo about what that might look like and finally we get going. So it was similar in a lot of ways to how Twilight Princess (on Wii U) played out.”

Of course, Nintendo doesn’t necessarily need Tantalus to work on a Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD. The company could always turn to another company or do the job itself.

Tantalus last teamed up with Nintendo for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, which was released in July 2021.
