Google Pixel 7 specs: second-gen tensor, more

Google’s Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro aren’t expected to launch until later this year, but at Google I/O 2022, the company unexpectedly offered a first look at the new devices. In terms of specs, here’s what we know about the Pixel 7.

What does the Pixel 7 look like?

In terms of design, the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have a lot in common with the existing Pixel 6 series, and that’s a good thing! These slab smartphones still have the same aluminum and glass construction.

The biggest difference is the camera bar, which is now covered in aluminum instead of being mostly glass. Besides giving the design an even more unique look and beautiful contrast in the “Hazel” model, this certainly has some durability benefits as well.

New: There was an expectation that the Pixel 7 series would bring back the adorable soft matte glass of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 4 series, but Google was quick to correct that previous statement. Unfortunately, the Pixel 7 will remain shiny, even though Samsung and Apple have ditched these designs for quite some time.

Pixel 7 specifications

  • Dimensions: 155.6mm x 73.1mm x 8.7mm
  • Processor: “Next Gen” Google Tensor
  • Colours: Obsidian, Snow, Lemongrass

It’s early days to know the specs of the Pixel 7 series, but we have some pretty solid info between reliable leaks and official details from Google. For the standard Pixel 7, we can expect a phone that’s slightly smaller than the Pixel 6. The Pixel 7 measures 155.6mm x 73.1mm x 8.7mm, while the Pixel 6 is 158.6mm x 74 .8mm x 8.9mm.

Under the hood, Google has confirmed our earlier report that the Pixel 7 will run on a “next-gen” Google Tensor processor as the core of its spec sheet. We know that this chip is called “GS201”.

Finally, Google has also confirmed that the Pixel 7 will be available in three colors: obsidian (black), snow (white) and lemongrass (yellow).

Pixel 7 Pro specifications

  • Dimensions: 163mm x 76.6mm x 8.7mm
  • Processor: “Next Gen” Google Tensor
  • Colours: Obsidian, Snow, Hazel

Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 Pro appears to offer much of the same upgrades, with the addition of a telephoto camera to its rear array, which appears a curved front display – we haven’t officially seen the front of the phone yet – and a larger overall design. The Pixel 7 Pro is thinner but slightly wider than the Pixel 6 Pro at 163mm x 76.6mm x 8.7mm versus 163.9mm x 75.9mm x 8.9mm.

The Pixel 7 Pro will use the same “next-gen” Tensor chip, but likely with more RAM than the standard model. Google also confirmed that Pixel 7 Pro will feature a unique “Hazel” color in addition to the black and white colorways.

This article will be continuously updated as Google releases new information on Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro specs.
