The national average gas price hits a new record high of .45 per gallon

The national average gas price hit a record high and is expected to rise further as the US energy crisis rages on.

The average price of a gallon of gasoline hit $4.45 on Saturday, according to AAA Gas Prices. Some states with above average prices are California at $5.92 per gallon and Hawaii at $5.32.

Diesel also reached its own highest price on record at $5.56.

The nationwide average retail price for a gallon of regular gasoline reached $4.40. However, Andy Lipow, the president of Lipow Oil Associates, estimated that the national average could soon rise to as much as $4.50 a gallon.

Before Russia was sanctioned for invading Ukraine, which threatened the already tight global oil market, the national average was $3.53, according to Lipov.

That Biden administration canceled one of the high-profile oil and gas lease sales pending before the Home Office as Americans face record high prices at the pump, according to the AAA.

In his first week in office, President Biden signed an executive order temporarily suspending new oil and gas leases on federal land. The administration resumed the new lease last month following court challenges to the ban. The government is appealing a ruling in which Judge James Cain, a Trump-appointed representative, overturned the ban.
